FAQ
Some answers to our most commonly asked questions:
Do you offer discounts, promo codes, or free shipping? We work hard to offer you our finest products, using only the highest quality ingredients, at the fairest price every single day. We do not pad our prices and then offer discounts to make it appear that you are getting a good deal, or free shipping. We want to help you stretch you dollar further every time you shop with us. Our flat rate shipping at $20 CAD (approx $15USD) covers a small box with 4 or 5 items. Orders larger than that have higher shipping costs that we cover as our way of thanking you for placing a sizable order with us.
Order updates? Once your order is placed you should start getting automatic email updates. These will also include your shipping information, with tracking, once shipped. If you do not see these emails please check your junk/spam folder. If you don't see them there please let us know and we will manually send them to you.
Where are your products made? Right on our homestead in northern Alberta. Everything is made in small batches from our own thoroughly tested recipes to ensure you receive the best products we can produce.
How long have you been making soap? Due to thyroid issues I react to nearly all skin and hair care products. Even many "healthy" products use ingredients that cause negative reactions for me. In 2016 I began learning about cold process soap making. This led to lotion bars, conditioner bars, and basically making everything I can to replace my personal health, beauty and hygiene products. I have since learned how to super fat my soaps and add ingredients that leave the skin moisturized, and not stripped, in order to promote a healthy skin barrier which then helps keep the body internally healthy too. I am also now a member of the Handcrafted Bath and Body Guild and this identified on each of my soap labels.
Do you grow your own herbs and ingredients? Yes and no. We are still building and developing our land. As we establish gardens and animals we refine our ability to grow, harvest and use our own materials for our products. The areas we are not fully developed in we rely on local farms and imported organic products such as coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, essential oils, herbs, florals and spices.
Would you ship a gift for me? Yes. If you want to purchase a gift for someone and have it shipped directly to them please let us know and we'd be happy to do this for you.
Are your soaps handmade? Yes. We make Cold Process soaps so that we have full control over the soap base and can add skin healthy beneficial ingredients that to each batch. We are not a "melt and pour" soap maker.
What kind of Lye do you use? We use a food grade lye that is actually suitable for making pretzels. Some lye contain other ingredients to be used as a cleaner. We do not feel that type of lye is healthy so we only source food grade lye.
Are your soaps vegan? Some are; we have identified them accordingly. Most of our soaps use grassfed beef tallow that we source from farms here in Alberta. We do not use tallow that includes harmful chemicals, preservatives, or other additives. Animal fats have been found to resemble the chemical makeup of human oils and we find these fats assimilate more easily to the skin and promote skin healing and health. We source our animal fats from well raised animals on pasture which is said to be higher in fat soluble vitamins. We also use bees wax and raw honey and we source these from within Alberta as well.
Do you use fragrance in your soaps? No. We do not use any synthetic fragrances or perfumes in our soaps, lotion bars, and body care items. While we love the idea of them, they have been shown to disrupt hormone balance. We are very sensitive to scents as well and find that even some essential oils can cause issues. This is why we use information from well sourced aromatherapists to scent our soaps and use the oils as an added health benefit to the soap. For example, geranium is said to balance hormones. You will find this health promoting oil in many of our formulations for this reason.
Are your soaps dairy free? We know that some people are sensitive to dairy and cannot tolerate it on the skin. Some of our soaps do contain milk or cream but we have many soaps that do not contain any dairy at all. Our most healing bar for people with sensitive skin is our basic tallow soap which does not contain dairy or essential oils.
Why do your soaps contain sugar? We use a raw organic sugar and this is added to create lather. Good sources of sugar such as from milk, organic sugar cane, raw honey actually feed the beneficial bacteria of the skin which helps to create a supple and healthy skin barrier to keep out pathogens.
