Welcome to our homestead!
My name is Ashley and my husband is Geoff. We are an American/ Canadian family of 10 living in remote Northern Alberta. We’ve spent the past 11 years developing our land and building our homestead with our own two hands and minimal equipment.
We heat our buildings, water and greenhouse with firewood which has become a central activity for our family as we head out into the Canadian bush to cut trees, split logs and bring them home!
Currently we only have chickens but our goal, as we can afford the time and money, is to continue to clear and fence land, and build shelters for a milk cow and meat animals.
We eat a mainly carnivore diet due some health issues including cancer and our dream is to produce this diet in our harsh climate. It’s much easier to raise animals than gardens here. We’ve realized over the years that the animals can eat the vegetation we can’t and turn it into nutrient dense meat and milk!
We know the carnivore diet isn’t for everyone but we do share how we get creative with it with 8 kids. We aren’t super strict and I’ve spent 7 years establishing no dig garden beds in our harsh climate.
My husband also built me a beautiful year round green house that I share as I learn how to use it with our seasons. We grow watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and few other treats we like to add to our diet.
With 8 children to raise, I am passionate about health and mental wellness. Everything from nutrition, to good teeth (ha ha), to home/natural birth, homesteading, homeschooling, and happy, mentally well moms and children.
I share simple ways to make your family’s soap, cleaning products, bodycare and creative ways to decorate and make a natural Home.
I would love to share the lessons I’ve learned and experiences I’ve had from 17 years of motherhood, 12 years homeschooling, 11 years of building our own home, pregnancies, miscarriages, cancer and more.
