Dandelion season is about done here in the North. The cheerful fluffy yellow heads are seeding out into a wispy gossamer veil across our acreage. We did All The Things with the yellow blossoms. Tea, infused oils, soaps, balms and lotions. My daughter even made a thick dandelion syrup to use as a second ferment for kombucha. That was a fun new craft this year!
Now that the blossoms are gone I still have a little infused dandelion blossom oil so I decided to formulate a cold process shampoo recipe with it.
Here’s how I infused my dandelion oil: along with another dandelion soap recipe.
Here’s what we did with the whole dandelion plant: dandelion coffee, tea, and oil.
Today I’m sharing a Dandelion Shampoo Bar recipe. I’m not getting into the safety and equipment of soap making. If you’re new to cold process soap you might find my Tallow Dish Soap recipe and instructions useful. Otherwise, I’m just sharing the recipe and instructions today.

Dandelion Shampoo Bars:
12.54 ounces water (you could use frozen dandelion tea like I did in my Dandelion Body Soaps )
*just a note regarding temps. When I’m not using frozen teas or milk I don’t heat my oils, rather I use my hot lye mixture to melt my oils. If I’m using a frozen teas or milk, I don’t heat my heat my oils to about 100 degrees before adding my lye and water solution.
5.44 ounces sodium hydroxide
20 ounces coconut oil (coconut oil creates a harder sudsier bar, perfect for shampoo soaps)
10 ounces dandelion infused oil (I made mine with an even mix of avocado and olive oil)
After Trace:
1 tbsp castor oil
1/2 tsp organic sugar (or regular sugar, the addition of sugar heats up the bar and also creates a sudsier bar)
1 TBSP yellow clay (creates a pretty creamy yellow, soothes and cleanses hair without stripping it of natural oils, my hair always feels softer after using clay shampoo bars)
Essential oils: about 1/2 TBSP combine essential oils of vanilla, mandarin, and lavender. You can use whatever scent/fragrance or essential oils you like. Or leave it plain.

These make pretty handmade gifts too. My neighbors, friends and family always enjoying receiving my handmade soaps and it’s a joy for me to make and give them. Whether for personal use or gifts, I hope you enjoy making your own custom dandelion shampoo bars.
Warmest Blessings,
Ashley
